Clinical Research Nurse specializing in Diabetes - MGH


If you are an expert RN driven to make a significant impact in diabetes research, this position at Mass General Brigham is designed for you! We seek a skilled and upbeat Clinical Research Nurse to join the Faustman Immunology Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Charlestown. Our team is leading innovative Phase II clinical trials targeting reversal of Type 1 Diabetes with the study drug BCG. This role allows you to participate in ground-breaking research involving both adult and pediatric groups.


The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, leading research environment. This position is benefits-eligible and part-time at 32 hours per week, with potential for full-time. The role requires 100% onsite presence with early morning shifts starting at 7:00 AM, Monday through Friday.


Responsibilities:


Coordinate study enrollment, protocol treatment, and completion of study requirements for patients participating in clinical trials.

Work collaboratively as an effective member of the research care team, ensuring full coverage for patients arriving from across the country.

Proficiency in IV insertion and blood drawing skills in pediatric patients aged 8-20 years, applied daily.

Engage in continuous learning of good clinical practice in human trials, maintaining meticulous audit and documentation standards.

Provide protocol education to patients and families, tailoring interactions to meet age-specific needs.

Assist with research efforts in the Faustman Immunology Lab, maintaining high-quality results and ensuring participant safety.

Work together with study coordinators to keep study regulatory binders updated.

Collect and prepare specimens for analysis, monitoring test results as appropriate.

Document observations and findings in StudyTrax, communicating effectively with the protocol investigator.

Participate in weekly research team meetings and ongoing collaboration, serving as a resource for study coordinators.

Monitor patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for all study protocols.

Take part in internal audits alongside study coordinators.

Assess and document injection responses both in person and via Zoom.

Provide clinical lab test results to subjects.

Perform Mixed Meal Tolerance Testing (MMTT) on pediatric subjects and assist with Glucagon Stimulation Testing on adult subjects.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:


BSN preferred.

At least two years of RN experience with adult and pediatric (8 years and older) IV and blood draws is necessary; 3-5 years is favored.

Current MA RN license.

BLS certification maintained.

Preferred experience in clinical research and diabetes.

Education:


Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred.

Experience:


Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required.

Skills/Certifications:


Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.

Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Excellent verbal and communication skills.

Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
